So, it’s now 2017. I don’t know about you, but I rang in the New Year by going to bed at 7:30 on New Year’s eve – pretty wild!
However, this New Year’s I did something different; I wrote down all the things that were good about 2016 and read them aloud. Ironically, I was in the middle of a depression when I penned the bulk of it earlier in the month. It surprised me how many things came up (25 to be exact), because I had been so focused on my injuries and all the ways I had regressed.
I started the list just to convince myself the year didn’t totally suck, and I finished it realizing what a great year it had been. I read a lot of informative books, watched some amazing documentaries, discovered some healing meditations, celebrated my 40th birthday (multiple times), to name some positive revelations.
Point being, this new tradition really gave me an appreciation for past accomplishments/experiences, and it helped recharge me for the new year.
As I’ve stated before, I don’t do resolutions. However, I do believe beginning a new year is a great time to press the restart button on your life. It’s an ideal occasion to learn from past mistakes and start anew, whether it’s regarding relationships, health, career- whatever. There’s no better time to take charge of your life and make 2017 your bitch!
As I begin this new chapter, I know a lot of people who are struggling health wise. So, my intention is to honor them in how I live each day. I will exercise, eat right and heal my body/mind. I will do this because I am fortunate enough to have the choice- so many others do not. I will do my best to stay in the moment because it is the only one we are guaranteed. I’ll try not to let the little things bog me down- most issues I face are pretty trivial in the long run. And most importantly, I shall remember the importance of gratitude. It sounds cheesy, however, it serves as a constant reminder that no matter how impossible things seem, there are so many reasons to feel blessed. If anything deserves our attention, it’s that!
Let’s make this new year the best yet! Love to you all:)
